A day of two halves
Last morning in Vietnam....
Lifejackets on, we piled into 5 small boats and set off through the floating villages. First of all was a visit to a houseboat where they breed fish...the smell was horrific...yuck! But best of all was when we visited a Cham community. Having successful negotiated the wonky wobbly wooden bridge we wandered through the floating village, across wooden walkways witnessing floating village life up close. Fantastic, I loved it! And I got my last photo of the day from Vietnam.
Of course, still had time for one last temple visit to Chau Doc temples...then it was Cambodia here we come!
Women and passports first.....
What a cool way to cross the border into Cambodia...sailing from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh....sit back, relax and enjoy!
Alas not, but what is a holiday without a bit of drama....long story short, boat engine went on fire, bit of panic arose...some got off onto a local boat, 7 of us made it onto the bow and played twister and satisfied that the boat was now safe (?) the men were able to remain inside at the front of the boat.
Having survived inhaling a lung full of thick black smoke (no prizes for guessing where I was sitting), saved by my hat from flying glass from a shattered window and avoiding a dislocated hip, I was convinced I was going to succumb to sunstroke. But we all lived to tell the tale.....and continued our journey, passengers on one boat, luggage on another (we hoped)...and we enjoyed a mid afternoon snack...smoked ham sandwiches...lol!!
