A back blip as we left early Saturday morning (still Friday evening in the UK) for the Beach House where, without electricity, we were to prepare lunch for good friends coming to be the first guests in our almost finished refurbishment.
Saturday morning run, and then breakfast with the Saturday Herald. Mainly ads so not too much reading required. A few puzzles, and I almost met my self imposed challenge of completing the daily cryptic before finishing breakfast. I don't attempt Kropotkin until I have ample time and a relaxed brain as he is a difficult setter to untangle.
Then off we tootled, still not sure whether to try and cobble together lunch at the house or take our friends out to one of the lovely wineries in the area. In the Snells Beach shopping area (a full dozen businesses) is the most superb delicatessen/cafe and in conversation S mentioned our dilemma, and we were offered a recently de-ovened quiche, lovely breads and pate and a couple of great salads. With the addition of freshly ground locally roasted coffee, we felt chuffed to be able to produce (at minimal personal effort) a local meal in our own place. (All the food in the deli is either made on site from local ingredients - where possible - or made locally.)
With the sparkling wine our friends brought it was a most marvellous lunch to welcome guests to the new/old place.
This picture (taken while on my morning run) is of a cafe which was one of the first on Ponsonby Road to be open this morning. No customer had yet appeared, although one can see clearly the green neon OPEN sign in the window. Not sure I know what soulful coffee is like.
