Glass was discovered/invented about 3,500 years ago, apparently, but glass blowing wasn't thought of until about 50 BC, by the Romans (naturally). There are all sorts of complexities and the history is quite interesting - but I'm sure you can google 'glass blowing history' as well as I can...
