I have to admit: I always thought they came in ''Pairs'', unless the unfortunate owner happened to have only one leg, or was a Merman.

It did, however, open a silly discussion as to whether it/they was/were an accompaniment to a Smoking Jacket, or whether, in fact they were so tight all you could do after fastening them was ''pant''. Or even if the tubes of leg were, exactly, parallel over the entire length.
