Purely scientific

I'm not kidding: every single time I drive by this water tower, I wonder exactly why it had to be built 1000ft tall. Turns out there is a quite scientific reason for it.

Then I wonder what would happen if it fell down or worse, the round thing broke off and rolled thunderously down the busy boulevard. Lucky for me, someone brilliant had an equally scientific answer.
