Melbourne Cupettes

For the benefit of those who may not know - on the first Tuesday of November, Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne hosts a horserace which "stops the nation". The big race is called the Melbourne Cup. Most people stop what they are doing (if they can) and watch the race on TV. It starts at about 3 pm.

Workplaces hold sweeps, betting agencies do a huge trade and many women take the day off and attend Melbourne Cup lunches or just attend a lunch if they are not working. A chance to dress up. Fascinators are a must. Note the attire of these cupettes - fascinator (tick), high high heels (tick) glam frocks (tick - ish). This was taken at about 7 pm. From their stagger, they must have been drinking since lunch. I wonder what she was saying to that man?
