Hidden Gardens of the Royal Mile - Book launch

This evening was the launch of the new book "Hidden Gardens of the Royal Mile" by Jean Bareham who runs tours in the Old Town of Edinburgh, finding green spaces where you thought there were none.

I met Jean when I saw her leading a tour past the gardens of the Veterans' Residence opposite Craigwell Cottage. In fact, one day I hijacked her small tour party and led them up to the garden of Nether Craigwell from which there are fine views out over the city.

So it was lovely to go along to the Out of the Blue Drill Hall in Leith this evening for the book launch, which was well attended. In addition to hearing of the book and the history of the cultivation of waste land in the Old Town, I also heard about the Patrick Geddes Gardening Club and found a book to buy at the Radical Book Fair which is on till the weekend.
