The Globe at Durlston Head

Durlston Head in Dorset is at the tip of the Purbeck peninsula. Quarries in Purbeck and Portland have for centuries produced white limestone that is used to build many stone buildings in London and elsewhere (such as St Paul's Cathedral).

Business was at its height in the nineteenth century and the ships carrying the stone blacks were often sent back from London with iron bollards from London streets as ballast.
