Niewe Herbal

This book displayed at Lytes Cary Manor in Somerset is a 1578 first edition of the Niewe Herbal written by Flemish physicain/botanist Rembert Doedens and translated from the French by Henry Lyte, whose house this was.

Lyte's herbal was dedicated to Queen Elizabeth and he included a number of his own observations and the names of local places where the plants could be found.
