The Earl of Bute's Shoes

The original of Allan Ramsay's famous portrait of the 3rd Earl of Bute ( the first Scot to be Prime Minister) hangs in the drawing room of Bute House, the official residence of Scotland's First Minister. Every time I see it ( which is before every Cabinet meeting) I marvel anew at its artistry and charm. These are his shoes with their wonderful buckles.
