Chada
Two houses down from Nid's parent's house, her neighbor was sitting on the porch making these beautiful chadas. A chada is this traditional Thai hat worn for ceremonies and for traditional Thai dance. Also the 14th letter of the Thai alphabet, daw chada ( ? ), is named after this hat.
I love the way so many people make their living by such simple means. Don't misunderstand, I don't think this chada would be simple to make at all, neither would taking care of the silk worms to make silk like I saw a few days ago. But it's nice that people can work from their home; that their kids can be a part of their work lives or at least see what mom and dad do all day; and that this is enough to sustain their family.
