Treble Trouble

I can read music.

There are lines and dots. The dots are of different shapes and sizes, they appear on and between different lines. Sometimes they appear above or below the lines - too far above and my voice registers a formal complaint. If I am lucky enough to get a good start I can usually follow the dots up and down, and even manage a little bit of intonation and dynamics.

And then there are words. English, Latin, and occasional other languages are mostly fine - but it gets tough when a composer starts with phonetics. Come on now! But again, in that aforementioned good start, I can even read the words.

Distractions. Up to seven other "voices" in the choir, singing as many different part - which might mean different words and music - and possibly a different accompaniment. But actually, over time, and with practice, that can help! Surprisingly. Even if it's a Tenor!

All good so far. And then the one thing I mastered before I ever attended school... counting!

Counting? Give me a break! I have to sing (tough enough), follow the dots, read the words, listen to other voices and sometimes an orchestra, *and* count? Oh bugger!

Okay, so I can read music. Just not always at the same time as I am singing!
