Side shoots must go!
Today was very warm, in fact hot.
It was so hot in the greenhouse that I could only work in there for a few minutes at a time, but I did manage to get all the tomatoes and the cucumbers tied up. The tomatoes are now around 4 foot high and are producing their third truss of flowers and setting fruit.
I also got a change to prune the side shoots. Although these shoots will produce flowers they do require energy which is needed for the main trusses. So you have to be ruthless and get them off.
As you can see the cucumbers have started setting fruit so we should be eating them with the month.
*** Top tip***
You can replant any cuttings from the tomatoes and they'll quickly grow into fruit bearing plants.
