What's the story?
Smacking my head off a cupboard door is never a good start to the day... I'm not sure I'd it was the resulting lack of cognitive functioning, but I admitted defeat on the jigsaw.
We decided that, after 10 years of my visiting Iona, we would take a day trip over to Mull and visit Tobermory. The drive was stunning, and mildly terrifying in parts. Tobermory itself was not too thrilling, and filled with rally cars - we had managed to time the visit with the annual Mull rally. We ended up parking a good walk away from town by the pottery and walking down, and aside from a tasty lunch of crab (him) and langoustine (me) the visit passed without event, though I did by a penguin for our Christmas tree...
We had 2 hours to drive back before the last ferry, so we decided to take the scenic route. Big mistake. Said rally cars were everywhere setting up, and with Mull having mostly single lane roads with passing places progress was slow. I ended up phoning Calmac in desperation, knowing that we would arrive almost exactly as the last ferry left, and Col enjoyed his own go at rally driving to get us back in time. After a run down the hill from the car park we boarded a couple of minutes late, had the ferry run to German time we would have missed it.
As always, our last night on the island was spent having dinner at the St Columba hotel. Delicious as ever, and made even better by taking a couple of beers home to have as we watched Star Trek VII. A good day, despite the panicked drive across Mull, I was distracted and happy, and realised that although relaxation is one of the best parts of a holiday, I will always enjoy doing new things and enjoying meals out more.
Concussion - head off cupboard. Gave up on jigsaw. Tobermory, rally, race to ferry, rain, phoned cal mac, langoustine lunch, dinner at Columba, black pudding, cat on lap with film, tasty beer. Last night, Spain in a week, wind howling, dark
