michigan man

Call E. Flower

Probably the greatest thing about living in Michigan is being able to show people where you live by pointing to the back of your hand. Imagine my four fingers together. You take the pointer finger of your right hand...show the backside of your left hand...and just point it. Instead of using my finger...I put the small pumpkin in the spot where my hometown is located.

I say all that to point out that a friend and I took a drive up into Michigan's thumb today. They really do call it that. That's my friend Shelley posing with the pumpkin dummies, and going down the steps on the way to Lake Huron. A little riddle that every Michigan kid learns is the word to remember all the Great Lakes. HOMES. H-Huron, O-Ontario, M-Michigan, E-Erie, S-Superior. I would say my favorites are Michigan, Superior, and Huron.

The farms were pretty, but the fall colors were a little lame. Most were already passed, but there were flashes of brilliant hues.

How about the size of the cauliflower? It's the biggest one I've ever seen. I gave it a new name. Caulimonsterflower. I chopped it in half, and gave half to my sister-in-law. Since I played volleyball tonight...I can hardly wait to eat it on the morrow. I also bought another 8 small gourds. Don't tell my wife. She warned me not to buy anymore.
