Waiting for the Train, Jaipur Station

A long day of travelling: 3 hours by coach to Ajmer then 7 hours on the train, arriving at Delhi at 11pm, where a party of porters greeted us, loading 2 or 3 cases each on their heads and taking us on a route march across the station to our coach. Sleeping bodies, rubbish and the overwhelming whiff of stale ( and not-so-stale) urine everywhere. A rail journey in India is certainly an experience (not to be repeated as far as my wife, Tess, is concerned!)

This was taken through the grimy train window during a wait at Jaipur station. The couple in the foreground had been deep in conversation for some time and were joined by the other two gentlemen, all four falling into quiet and patient contemplation, as if used to waiting a long time for a train.
