Toots in Solitude

East Lothian

Donald and I had a great walk on the beaches at North Berwick today and the weather was so perfect we went for a gad about the countryside too. In East Lothian we are spoilt for beauty.

My older sister Maggie and I were once listening to a radio programme about two girls who had been given, at birth, to the wrong parents, there was an identity mix-up. They were in their 20's when this had come to light.
I was so absolutely sure then that this must have been what happened to me, why else would I be so unlike any of the rest of the family.
"You can't have been swapped at birth" said Maggie.
"How do you know, how could you be so sure" said I.
"Well, you were born at home"
"Oh" said crestfallen me.
"Yes, I remember Floss put you in that drawer" said Maggie.
"Put me in a drawer!" my head went into my hands, I wept in despair for this poor baby (me) so maltreated.
"Yes, she didn't have a cot so they used a drawer."
