Return to the sands
The southern end of the Sands of Forvie has been closed for much of the summer to allow the terns to nest in peace. Now that they have finished their annual fornication the area is once again open to us humans.
The area is dominated by a huge, constantly changing, mobile sand-dune and is pure heaven to an ammophilous soul such as me. I never cease to be amazed by the patterns produced by sand and water; this is what the crest of the dune looked like this morning. The beauty is in the detail.
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.
William Blake - Auguries of Innocence
