Angels Wings

I ducked down to the estuary today. This pair were having a lovely chat , until he (she?) took offence and headed off. The second followed within moments.

I'm sure they must have modelled angels wings on tern with theirs spread.

I'm not sure what that bit of grey marking on the underside of his wing is about. Anyone know the answer to that?
