Mossley Fairies

Day of ups and downs. But only going to mention the ups on here.

Girls were home and despite having very sore feet due to ridiculous shoe wearing to work..I took them for a scoot down the canal tonight. I campaigned long and hard against Barratts building in Mossley for over two years but the girls did find the tarmac they laid over the fields quite easy to scoot round so every cloud and all that!

It was strangely hot again - a warm breeze hit us as we walked over the river and by the canal and it had a balmy summer evening by the sea feel to it.
I tried to persuade the girls to let me go back and get my camera. There were some amazing poppies growing..but they were too hot and tired so it may be a blip for another night.

Been tweeting about Mossley and another local tweeter took a great photo of a proper fairy toadstool today and it reminded me of Lily's fairy.

When she was little we used to walk a lot to what we called the 'fairy pond' - it used to look like one too* lily pads and frog spawn and she used to try to spot fairies. Well, this being the 90's and before CGI. I bought a fairy in a jar and planted it when she wasn't looking...then said "Look Lily! A fairy!" and she cautiously picked up the jar and we took it home. She believed in fairies for a long time. In my heart, I hope she still does. She's almost 20 now.

"Every time a child says "I don't believe in fairies," there is a fairy somewhere that falls down dead"
James Matthew Barrie,
Peter Pan

The little fairy in a jar came back home to us a couple of months ago after being packed in a box for 13 years.

Thank YOU for the photo and thank you Lily for the memory.

* the pond has dried up now. I blame Barratts.
