Pics from Zone Flâneur

Another day, another seascape

After yesterday's crash and bash, which went on until quite late, this morning has dawned quite calm. The pic was shot just after 07:00; it is overcast and likely to rain. The sea has settled and the wind moved round to a northerly.

But wait! More strangeness awaits...

The temperature outside is 31C.

If you read yesterday's post, you'll know that it is autumn here. The temperature is supposed to be in the high teens or low twenties. 31? What's going on?

Blippers that live in South Africa will have heard of Berg Winds and that's exactly what we have today (berg is the Afrikaans word for mountain). The weather front moving across the tip of the continent is blowing warm air from far up country - the bigger the frontal system, the further the warm air travels. Given that the Karoo desert is less than 300km from here, it is probably safe to say that the hot air passing now was heated by yesterday's sun in the desert. The clouds generated by the weather front trapped the warmth overnight, only to deliver it hundreds of kilometres south this morning.

If it wasn't so cloudy, I'd have the braai (barbeque) out for some lunch time meat burning. Maybe I'll do it anyway ;-)

PS! Thanks for all the positive comments yesterday.
