Helter-skelter

Tally ho?

Despite two sleepless nights in a row (one due to one of my frequent bouts of insomnia, then last night because my little boy was ill) I managed to get my daughter and her friend to their horseriding lesson this morning.

Feeling like I'd been kicked in the head and just wanting to go home to bed, my heart sank a bit when our friends suggested we go and see something afterwards called 'Hunter Trials', which was happening at a local equestrian centre.

I know nothing about horsey-things and so was relieved that there wasn't actually any kind of hunting involved - just horses and riders doing timed rounds of a course with about 21 jumps like the one in this picture.

I'm glad we stopped off there, though, as I'd never seen anything like that before. My neighbour was a marshal and we met her horse Twiglet for the first time (who wasn't taking part - he was in disgrace, having recently been sufferring from the horse version of 'teen-angst').

Apparently, the UK (GB?) Olympic equestrian team were taking part in something at a showground a few miles away but my pounding head said 'No!' and when I got home I went straight to bed. I discovered some hours later that both my husband and the kids had thought I'd gone to Tesco. No wonder I had such a lovely sleep! :-D
