Fortune Tellers

Ceridwen & I visited the University of Pennsylvania's Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology today. We saw human and cat mummies from Egypt, artifacts of Mayan sports, Ancient Greek vases, and the fragments of Roman statues. I took this shot in the gallery for Imperial China, where my companion looked into this crystal ball and said, "Lapin au moutarde et poireaux for supper!"

Her prediction came true. On the way home a lady was walking in front of us and threw down a bunch of leeks that had been run over by something. C. decided that they were edible road kill, and the outcome was predictably wonderful.

Funny to think about is that the crystal ball was once stolen and went missing for many years. Not so long ago, the curators did some research and heard tell of a ball fitting this description in the posession of a local fortune teller. Sure enough, a lady had it in her apartment and said something like, "Oh yes my neighbor left it here some years ago, and it's so nice!" There was no accusation at that point, and everyone was happy. The museum got its treasure back and the fortune teller has a cool story to tell.
