Etiwanda Preserve

Before tonight's volleyball match against Chaffey College (which the Long Beach City College team lost in five sets) my wife and I decided to depart from our usual "sit at a restaurant and eat/drink" activity. We spent an hour and a half hiking the Etiwanda Preserve just north of Rancho Cucamonga, CA (the city where Chaffey is located). Hiking in the California desert is not like hiking was in the Pacific Northwest - it is much hotter and the vistas are much more broad as there are few trees. There are, however, interesting plants like the toppled agave shown here from the bottom side. I do have photos of the ten foot stalks that grow from the center of these low slung plants, but thought this view more graphically unique.
