The Horsemen of Hungary

There is an incredible history to the tribal relationship with horses in Hungary, and still each area prides itself on the quality of its equestrians and their steeds.

This weekend was a huge celebration of the Magyar and their horses, with a huge festival taking over the main street of Andrassy Utca, Heroes Square being transformed into a racetrack, and a massive food festival. What an experience - it was just wonderful! Even better to have my friend Zsuzsa to guide us through it all and explain it - it felt like a much "deeper" experience.

We managed to get very close to the action in the horseracing (which was televised live!) but most of my shots were of the blank space after the horses had thundered past - what a terrifying speed. But for each qualifying round there was a victory parade at a more stately pace, so I caught this one!
