First Light

Another that deserves a bit of the magnify treatment.

I had a little blipping accident a month ago when I was out early trying to get a shot of some Yorkshire Fog (a type of grass). I slipped on some wet ground and contrived to land on my mobile phone, which was in my pocket, breaking the display. It still works in that I can receive calls, and just about make them (with some effort), but the alarm function is now inaccessible. I've managed pretty well without an alarm in the intervening time. Indeed, it's quite amazing how accurate the body's own clock is when you are called to rely upon it. The only times I've overslept have been when there was no critical reason to get up early and the decision was obviously made unconsciously to let me catch up.

I'm discovering that one good thing about leaving summer behind is that sunrise is at much more civilised time of the day. It's meant that I've been up on the moor to see the sun appear on successive days now, both times my internal alarm ringing so as to get me up and present me with a view of that special nascent dawn sky, full of the most sublimely subtle hues of pink, the kind that are just about impossible to capture in a photograph. I love feeling like I'm tuned into the world in this way!

There was too much cloud for the sunrise to be spectacular this morning, but there were enough breaks for it to cast some momentary bright light on this copse of pine trees. The shadow is being cast by the same crags that were featured on Saturday. In fact, this was taken from a spot not more than ten yards or so from where that shot was taken. I love the view shown here. There is a wonderful grassy path which descends down through those trees, but it is difficult to access this time of year because of the bracken. It won't be long, though, before all that will be dying back and revealing my favourite little tracks again. It all seems to change so quickly. I'm convinced that the cadence with which the seasons are cycling is increasing! Do other people feel the same?
