St Mawes Castle

Bella is learning about the Tudors at school. Part of her homework is to find out why Pendennis Castle was important.

We used this as an excuse to go up there, despite the wind. The showers stayed away and the sun shone so it was really rather pleasant in the sheltered areas. It gave us all a run out and cleared Mum's sinuses - she is accusing one of my little darlings of giving her a cold!

But anyway, this is St Mawes Castle on the other side of the entry to the Carrick Roads. I believe it is a mile between the 2 castles as canon range was half a mile (how convenient). Also there was a mine field across this bit during the second world war. And every year there is some sort of swimming thing between the 2 castles and Phil from Eastenders takes part*...

*I may have made this up based on half facts I have failed to remember from the Packet and the West Briton...
