Carry on Acting.

Gaby and Emma. Not sure which one is acting now - probably Emma. I think they'd both like to be Amy on Doctor Who (older and younger versions). Had to rescue Gaby and her friend D from Thorpe le Soken today as all the trains had stopped due to an accident somewhere up the line. D looks exactly like the current Dr Who (perhaps a few years younger). They had been at a drama workshop all day - subject: monologues, which went well I am told.

I was reminded earlier in the week that in the 70s, I spent some while sharing an office with two of the original Daleks, which was a little disconcerting on day one, but was something I got used to. I was there in 1963, behind that sofa, when William Hartnell hit the small (and I mean small) screen as the first Doctor.

I've often wondered whether Dr.Who would have been such a success without the music. I know Ron Grainer always had the credit as composer, but it was Delia Derbyshire who really created the sound. She was one of the few women working at the BBC's Radiophonic Workshop based at the Maida Vale studios in London. It was here that she used all sorts of oscillators, delays, reverb plates, reverse tapes and edits galore to make what was for then, the most amazing sounds. Sadly she died ten years ago, I think, never really recognised for her achievements.

PS Just in case you were going to ask - yes that is a picture of Prof.Brian Cox on the mantlepiece with our eldest, Philip-the-Physicist (he's the one on the right haha!).
