'Third Sector' Landscape

When your full-time job is all about promoting and supporting what is often now referred to as the Third Sector, it's interesting to come across (and enjoy) some interesting examples of what such non-profit-driven voluntary and community activity can actually achieve.

The mountain on the nearer horizon is the iconic Suilven, part of the Glencanisp Estate which, along with the neighbouring Drumrunie Estate, was taken into community ownership in June 2005 with the creation of the Assynt Foundation.

We spent a thoroughly enjoyable (and surprisingly energetic!) two and a half hours today walking the superbly engineered (and thoroughly well-maintained) network of paths on Little Assynt, before heading off for coffee and cake at the Fair Trade Cafe in Lochinver, followed by another energetic walk following the 'Crag Top Trail' through the National Nature Reserve at Knockan Crag on the borders of Wester Ross.
