Life in the oil fields.
In the outskirts of Baku, houses sit side-by-side with 'nodding donkey' oil wells. According to wikipedia they are used where there is not enough pressure for the oil to flow out of the well of its own accord, and are common in oil-rich areas. There are certainly alot around Baku!
Finally it's Friday evening - two whole days with my son to look forward to. One of the things I notice now I'm back at work is how little I see of him during the week. Perhaps 30 minutes in the morning (I'm not counting the 6:30am feed as we are both half asleep then), and then two hours in the evening. Here it's very common for children to stay up late - you see whole families strolling in the squares late at night in the summer - but even if we wanted D to have a more European/Azerbaijani timetable, I don't think he could - he's tired by 6:30/7pm. Perhaps the Azerbaijani children sleep more during the day?!
