Reflection
My hiking partner and I went high up into the Sandias today, on a trail called the Domingo Baca trail. I had been part of the way up before but always lost the trail at a certain point. Today -- after many wrong turns and dead ends -- we found the trail. Not marked at all, and I wasn't even sure the cutoff for it was a path at all -- but once we got past a steep little hill, the trail became really clear.
And it followed along a small stream, which kept cascading down the mountain and which had many small shady pools (which is such a miracle in New Mexico). This is one of the little pools.
Back in the 50s, a TWA plane crashed very high up, near this trail, and our goal was to find the wreckage. We failed in that attempt today, but will try again next week. It really didn't matter that we didn't find it though, and it won't matter next week if we don't find it again -- it was an incredibly beautiful hike.
