Meeting Point
Today I had to be back at the office for a full day. Was unfortunately late last night, so somewhat of an effort this morning to get up and out. Went on a short jog through the local park, and as I entered from the southwest at about the middle of the park's long axis, I saw this through the misty rainy morning light.
I was really taken with the coming together of these multiple paths, as seen across one of the sports fields. Despite spring having officially sprung (although daylight saving has yet to spring forward; that happens in 10 days), new leaf growth has yet to show.
The houses near the park edge are classic examples of the old colonial villas built in this part of Auckland around the start of the 20th century. The four that are seen all have a single bay with a verandah across the rest of the front. The steps lead up to a front entrance directly into a central hall. Although not quite kitset houses, there is a very standard plan for the hundreds, more probably thousands of similar houses still existing. They may let in wind, and even water on occasions, but they are strong secure and have served generations of New Zealanders well, and will continue to do so.
The slightly unusual shape in the centre of the picture is a rather interesting sculpture which I almost blipped a while ago. Will do so at some point when the light on it is better.
Everyone turned up today, and then I stayed on to do some correspondence, as S was with her mother helping her back into home (rather a struggle, as she (MIL) is not at all well), and also having to liaise with builders and tradesmen at the beach house next door. Both finally home to pizza and salad. Then posting the day's blip, followed by an early night.
