Daffodil Glade in Spring
On this lovely spring day I took Mum to the Daffoldil Glade which Hubby and I discovered earlier in the week. We walked amongst the tall deciduous trees which are underplanted by many daffodils, pure yellows, white and yellows, orange and yellow, plain and simple while some are very frilly - a huge variety.
The area used to be owned by Willian "Ready Money" Robinson of the Cheviot Hills Estate from 1857 to 1889. It is now a reserve and is a peaceful woodland of exotic and native trees. The orginal wooden homestead of 40 rooms was burnt down in 1936 but the foundations can still be seen.
On our way home we called in to the Hurunui River Mouth to take in the view of the Pacific Ocean. It was so clear and very blue, we could see the hills of Christchurch in the distance and there was a NZ Fur Seal basking on the waters edge amongst the seagulls. We spoke to a few people as we wandered along, all enjoying a walk and the amazing view. We heard there is not many whitebait around these parts as the river is quite low and its still quite early in the season.
After having a bite to eat and a rest in the sun, we packed our things and headed for home. Surprisingly the roads were quite - it was a perfect spring day for Mum and I :)
