Jugend Hall
The final image from our wonderful two weeks in Finland is yet another interior by that Art Nouveau master, Lars Sonck. Built in 1904 as a banking hall, and now the Aschan Cafe, the interior almost defies description, so I won't try.
If you go to Helsinki - and you should - go eat in this simply magical space. I went twice on our last day.
A great city, where the Baltic plays an enormous role, with yachts, giant cruise ships and icebreakers all part of the scene. Where fishermen sell their catch at the harbour, and market stalls overflow with fresh fruit and vegetables. Where beautiful buildings abound, and where the biggest surprise was the wealth of stunning art nouveau architecture.
