The Swamp Thing
It's not the Green Lantern. It's not the Green
Hornet. But...it is a Green, or Green-backed Heron. I sometimes wonder why they
call it that...because they really don't have that much green on
them.
This young fellar was hanging out among the ducks.
It is a small pond north of the millpond. I would guess it would be like living
in the suburbs, as opposed to living in the city. He is primed and poised to
strike out an unsuspecting fish.
I had some great bumblebees on my butterfly bush.
Some ants on a white lily (Could you call that Aunt Lily?), and a common white
butterfly on a bright green leaf.
But...I rarely see herons, let alone a green one. I
usually see the big "blue" ones. He was quite a ways off(out of my focal
length), so I really had to crop him in to get any kind of picture. Even when I
see them in Florida...they are skittish, and not camera-friendly.
I love the yellow eyes. I think instead of calling
them Green Herons...I'll call them Yellow-eyed Herons. Somebody notify
Wiki-pedia.
