Always flowing?

Not so.
A 60 mile stretch of the canal was closed last year due to low water levels. Was last summer really the driest summer for over 80 years?

A short walk down this section of the canal was what I needed earlier today. Suprisingly warm and fresh. In fact, in the sheltered parts it could've been described as hot.

Took a great many shots of the locks, barges moored up and resident fishermen upon them. In fact one fisherman gave me long stares as I took a shot of him, but he was quite a way off and I wasn't up for bellowing....
"Oi! Yes, you! Am I ok if I take your picture...!!!???"
