huay tho waterfall

this waterfall (about 70 m) is located in khao phanom bencha national park, about 1 hour north of ao nang in krabi. i'm honestly not much of a beach person anyway, so this was a good diversion from spending the whole day horizontal on sand.

tallying cost, it was about 2000 baht in a taxi to the park, and then 100 baht (farang price) to get into the park itself. there's bound to be cheaper alternatives, but i was more concerned about getting there today than finding a good deal. i was going to rent a motorbike for the day, but given their speed and my sense of direction, i thought i'd miss the waterfall entirely.

huay tho waterfall is the main attraction for the journey. there's a traditional route to take (about 750 m walk) directly to the waterfall, or a much longer trail i believe is named dog slide nature trail, which is the much better path. it's a winding trail that basically ascends up and then down the mountain, and was actually quite strenuous. i don't think it was very long, perhaps 3 km or so, but i'm no judge of distance either.

the joy really was to be able to pop out of the woods at the top of the waterfall. otherwise, you're just there for a swim, which is what all of the thai were doing this afternoon. i did notice some farang who neither got wet nor took the hike, so i'm not really sure they felt they received their moneys worth to come all of that way for a photo.
