michigan man

With Dad leading the way....Mom is trailing right
behind. Just out of the picture is Junior. Junior is naturally curious about a
lot of things, and does not seem anxious to join in the walk.

Just after I pulled off the road...a pair of geese
approached from the east. The 3 sandhills immediately turned around, and the
banter began. Between the honks and the cackles...it was Natures Song at
its finest. I was hoping to see a little confrontation, but the geese came to
their senses, gave up their stake to the land... and flew off.

The lake in the background is called Petts Lake. We
used to have a church member who lived on it. In a motor-boat, it takes about 2
minutes to circle the lake, but that didn't stop us from skiing on the
lake.

On one summer day, another church member was skiing
behind the boat. All of a sudden...the "spotter" saw Amos let go of the rope,
and dive into the water. He was underwater, came back up, then dove down again.
The boat driver quickly wheeled around, and sped back to the downed
skier...thinking the worst.

"AMOS...WHAT HAPPENED? ARE YOU OK?" Amos spoke.."I
WOST MY TEEF!! "WHAT DID YOU SAY?" He almost yelled.." I WOST MY TEEEF!!" He had
lost his lower dentures. While the lake wasn't very big...it was very deep...and
the chompers were never recovered. Poor Amos...we all felt bad for him...and
tried to keep our chuckles behind his back. He talked real funny until he got
another set made.

The cranes are pretty good parents. They are quite
attentive, and guard their baby when situations arise. I love to hear them
"talk". They make for good pets on Petts Lake.
