Portencross Castle - HDR
Portencross Castle, situated atop Auld Hill within the surrounding lands of Arnele was believed to have been a Royal residence where the first two Stuart Kings were said to have signed several Royal charters. The castle was also said to be the final mainland resting place of former Scottish kings who rested there before their final journey by ferry to Iona.
Following the war of independence in 1315, Robert I, the Bruce gave the confiscated lands of Godfrey de Ros to his loyal follower, Robert Boyd who built the present castle in the mid 1300's, on a promontory at the base of Auld Hill to defend the sea routes and access to the islands of the Firth of Clyde.
The castle was used several times by Robert II to sign further charters during the period when the Stewart dynasty was being established.
This is my second attempt at HDR imaging, this time using five -2 to +2 bracketed captures to complete the final image.
