The Pepper That Survived Irene

We slept through most of the brunt of the tropical storm, waking this morning to no power. We were glued to the television last night watching the eye of the hurricane inch its way closer to Philedelphia, after making quite the impact to North Carolina and Deleware. I monitored Facebook posts from people who lived up and down the east coast and how they were coping with Irene's feirceness. I am happy to report no casualties so far.

We were as prepared as we could be, stock piling water and dry goods. We were hoping to pick up a generator, but they all sold out. Even the truck load that arrived yesterday morning was sold out in minutes. I went to the grocery store for last minute snacks to find a lot of panic shopping had wiped out the shelves. I thought this was a bit silly. I wanted to buy some Ginger ale, but apparently that is the first thing to go when a storm is looming. However, diet Ginger ale was in plentiful supply.

This morning Dave ventured outside to check on his makeshift ditch (to discourage flooding of our raised beds) and have a walkabout on the property. The ditch had successfully thwarted this gardener's nightmare. He also managed to pick our very first successful green pepper from our garden, which was in pretty good shape considering the wind had been thrashing it about all night. Yes, this is the very pepper to have survived Irene, but could not withstand the greater force of Dave's appetite.
