Red Admiral on thistle

A rare bit of sunshine today at lunchtime brought a Red Admiral and two Commas. :-)

They seemed to be greatly enjoying the thistle nectar. I thought I ought to read up on why the thistle is the emblem of Scotland since I have always wondered and it turns out that along time ago, an invading Norse army was trying to creep up on some sleeping Scots, one of them trod on a thistle and shouted out, waking the Scots who defeated them, hurray!
