Who am I to disagree?

Negative

On a positive note after my last Negative blip, I was at the hospital this afternoon getting checked over for my postponed cataract operation. After a lot of faffing around they were eventually able to get the measurements they required and the op should happen on 8th September. This right eye has certainly gone through the mill - Lasik - Detached Retina - Glaucoma and now cataract.

Anyway today's Negative is for the return of the Pub Quiz - it's been a while since I blipped a Pub Quiz, firstly we were off on holiday and then the pub went bankrupt (not because we were on holiday), but now under new management it's back up and running and the quizzes are back in full flow. This is the third we've been at since the restart. The first time we came second and were surprised not to win the usual cash, but a voucher to spend on food in the pub. Mmmmm, I can understand the pub's logic here, but from our point of view all it's given us is a problem of how to use it - we don't really want to eat there! So let's just say our attendance since then has been sporadic. Daft really cos the enjoyment is in doing the quiz, but when you're given a "problem" if you win it's a bit off putting.

Anyway double Negative, in that we didn't do terribly well in the quiz either - possibly psychologically not wanting to win! These are the twelve questions we got wrong:

1. Which planet's satellites are named after Shakespearian characters?
2. What does the personal computer acronym SCSI stand for?
3. The 2011 film Rise of the Planet of the Apes is set in which US city?
4. What does the acronym WOMAD stand for?
5. Another Chance was the first UK No 1 single for which US artist?
6. Which English cheese shares its name with a county and has white and red varieties, the latter coloured with annatto dye?
7. What type of creature is a rorqual?
8. With which sport is Melissa Reid associated?
9. Which singer had a hit single entitled What the Hell?
10. What two-word name is given to an alloy of iron, chromium and carbon?
11. Who succeeded James Caan in the 2011 series of Dragons' Den?
12. Spell invidious.

On a positive note ('cos he's not responsible for the "prizes") here's the plug for Andrew (who's good enough to email me the above so's I don't have to type them out:

The quiz is well & enjoyably run by Andrew and as his website says "If you're in London, Essex, Herts, Beds or Bucks - Want to hold a quiz event but can't find a quiz master? - Want a fun evening?" Then give him a call.
