The Mover
It was a dark and dreary afternoon here...with both
the waterfowl and the people looking skyward for the start of the rain. Rumbling
thunderclouds added to the mix.
I watched duck after duck put it into reverse,
and shimmy their backsides up onto this small wall...right before the water
takes a 12-15 foot drop. Their orange web-feet must be pretty powerful to be
able to withstand the power and force of the water, although I have seen
numerous ducks go over the edge, including some ducklings.
The raindrops started...so I didn't want to mess
around with changing any settings on my camera. I think I could have upped the
ISO, but chose not to. The setting was at 1/30...so I knew any
duckie movement would really blur. A got a few good shots when the ducks
body was still, and the head was shaking after taking a drink. Then this
guy/girl started doing their wing-ding-fling...and I really got some movement. I
was surprised that they would pull the stunt while perched on the edge...but, I
guess they really had to stretch. You know the feeling.
Niya, the chihauhau doesn't like thunderstorms...so
she is lying on the floor next to the computer. After a few initial claps of
thunder...it has settlted into a nice, steady rain. Just what we like and
need.
