Salt!

This is the view in the opposite direction from yesterday's harbor photo.

The wide expanse of white is salt, a product of the SF Bay, which has been 'harvested' for well over 200 years (which is ancient by local standards). Salt is both a culinary and an industrial commodity, and the history of salt production in the SF Bay dates back to the mission settlements and the silver mining days of the Comstock Lode of Nevada.

In more recent times, the food processors and the environmental communities of the bay area have been in conflict and in collaboration about water allocation and habitat preservation.

This salt marsh area sits just off the parking lots of the industrial office complex shown in yesterday's blip. In the distance you see another peek of white, on the hilltops, where the fog was beginning its trip into the basin for the evening.

Try it in large format!

Have a great weekend.
