Bob and Carol
Started heading into the outback today. I've started doing some of the drive to lighten the load off Emma. It's an amazing drive. Hundreds of kilometers of straight roads. After 10 minutes it feels like you're just going round in circles. The scenery all looks the same.
On these roads there is sometimes 200+ km between villages. We have to be wary and make sure our fuel tank is always topped up. Don't want to be running out of fuel here, especially with very patchy mobile phone signal.
Very little traffic on these roads as well. Occasionally a car would pass us on the other side. We'd maybe go 30 minutes without seeing anyone else. There big 'road trains' on these roads. Trucks as long as 10 cars carrying freight through the outback. They recommend at least 1km of clear road in front of it before you even attempt at overtaking it.
There was also the occasional caravan too. Overtaking wasn't difficult, given that the roads are straight and there's never anything coming the other way. I wish we had a UHF radio, would have loved to have had a natter with Bob and Carol.
