Fishing Boat

To Fraserburgh habour this morning for the First Minister's visit to a survey ship working for the planned Moray Firth Offshore windfarm being developed by EDP Renovais and Repsol. Deployed in much deeper waters than most current offshore wind farms, this 1.5GW development, when complete, could have the capacity to power around one million homes.

Fraserburgh is of course best known as a major fishing port and the size of the 'fishing boats' is impressive. This trawler was fairly typical of many in the harbour and measures 70 metres long. A local fisherman told me the cost of the newest models can hit eight figures!

The town, aka The Broch, appeared to be the one small corner of the country to escape today's heavy rainclouds - with clear blue, sunny skies, as you can see from the photo.
