It's a canyon and it's GRAND!

Now on the return loop of our figure of 8 tour we stopped off for a night on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
In the morning we took the shuttle bus as far as it goes to Hermit's rest in the western region of the this part of the canyon. This is Pima Point - a huge vista showing the River Colorado in the bottom of the canyon, just visible are the rapids just above and to the left of the centre of the picture (LARGE)

The mid morning sun bleaches out the contours somewhat but on this shot there are some shadows created by building cloud.

My biggest surprise today was when I got up just before six to see the sunrise - this is what I saw - elk at the south rim!
