Business As Usual
2.30 p.m. Loampit Vale, Brockley / Lewisham Border, South East London.
Ventured down into Lewisham this afternoon, partly to shop and partly strip away some of the myths that have been bought through social media and in particular for m on twitter.
Last night, just a minutes walk away from my flat we were told of a gang of 50 plus in the usual uniform of hooded tops, ski masks and broken pieces of wood (this was true, but thankfully came to nothing). This was followed by rumours of an EDL / BNP march heading towards Lewisham from nearby Eltham. This was completely untrue despite being run on twitter by Channel 4 News via Nick Griffin of 'English Defence Vigilante Groups' within South East London.
Me stupidly believing a reputable news source would verify before tweeting anything was wrong and my tweet was jumped on people of certain right-wing views and have accused me of branding all of Eltham as racist. I didn't and I thought it was heartwarming to see Millwall supporters go to Eltham to give support to the police. It is sadly the odious Mr Griffin MEP and his inciting of racial bigotry that could lead to people moving into other area's to create more trouble. I hope this will just be yet another rumour to be added to many we all ready have. Let's take the message from Mothercare on the outskirts of Lewisham town centre and be open to one another as usual.
