Skip's Blips

We believe in miracles!

Today was our church picnic and pool party, winding up the week of vacation Bible school. I took lots of pictures of families and friends enjoying the wonderful summer evening together, but when I saw this little group of boys with the bat and ball, I knew I had my blip.

The boy pitching the ball is just going into seventh grade this fall. The summer he was two, he contracted a form of meningitis that left him a very sick little boy in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Rainbow Babies' and Children's Hospital in Cleveland. He only began to improve after the amputation of his legs, but his cure was nothing short of a miracle, helped along by his wonderful, strong, faith-filled family and supported by many friends. Ten years later, he is a healthy, agile young man, active in sled hockey and baseball. This picture pretty much tells the story of where he is today. He was recently fitted with amazing new legs that he wasn't wearing tonight because this was a pool party, but with the legs or without them, nothing seems to stop this gutsy, energetic kid, and that's a miracle!
