I was cycling home from town tonight and I passed this guy on Albert Square. After a moment of hesitation, I turned around and cycled after him, stopping him in the street to ask for his photo.
The wonderful tattoos are the work of his sister, currently based in Los Angeles. I've been thinking for years of getting a small tattoo & so we had a chat about the least painful areas to choose...I'm an unmitigated coward I think.
It always amazes me how willing people are to let a perfect stranger with an iPhone take their photograph & post it in an online diary. Funnily enough, whilst he was posing for me, a young couple came along & requested he take their picture together on their phone - kind of a pleasant turnaround.
This photo also looks great in colour & it's a shame not to post both colour & black & white. you somehow lose the detail of the tattoos in black & white, but gain a lot of impact & immediacy.
